Description

Our CNP Rouge dominated by 80% Genache is a blend of the different varietals and different terroirs of our appellation.  A well-structured wine with fine and elegant tannins. To be carafed during the first years.  Because it is bottled without any filtration, some sediment – natural and beneficial to the aging process – is possible. - Winemaker's Notes

The Winery

Domaine Raymond Usseglio & Fils is an estate in Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the southern Rhône Valley. It is best known for its flagship Châteauneuf-du-Pape rouge, Cuvée Impériale, which is a classic southern Rhône blend made predominantly from Grenache.

Francis Usseglio emigrated from Italy to Châteauneuf-du-Pape in 1931 and started winemaking in 1948. His two sons, Pierre and Raymond Usseglio, followed in their father's footsteps and established their own estates – Pierre inherited his father's estate, renaming it Domaine Pierre Usseglio & Fils, while Raymond founded Domaine Raymond Usseglio & Fils in 1963. Raymond's son, Stéphane, took over the reins of the domaine in 1999.

Today the estate stands at 24 hectares (59 acres). The majority of this hectarage lies within the boundaries of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and the remainder in the Côtes du Rhône.

The domaine makes three Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines alongside its signature Cuvée Impériale, including the Cuvée Girard – a blend of 90 percent Grenache, with 10 percent Mourvèdre, Syrah, Cinsaut and Counoise – and the more unusual La Part des Anges, a Mourvèdre-prevalent blend, with smaller quantities of Grenache and Syrah.

The domaine also makes two Châteauneuf-du-Pape blanc wines, a Vin de France, Les Amandiers, and a Grenache-dominant Côtes du Rhône red wine, Claux Rouge. - Information from Wine Searcher
