Description

Sun-kissed hay, macerated cherry and a hint of wild herbs mark this fresh, streamlined Barolo. It's firm and dense, ending with a fine sense of equilibrium and long finish. Best from 2023 through 2042. - WS92

An ample release of about 15,000 bottles, the 2017 Barolo del Comune di La Morra is another one of these hot-vintage expressions that does not fulfill the lofty promise of this noble northern Italian appellation. The fruit is simple and stripped down. The wine shows sweet primary fruit but lacks the definition and clarity of the variety. I taste sweet cinnamon and toasted oak on this near-term wine. Drink:2023~2033 - WA88

The Winery

The Giuseppe Ellena farm is located in the municipality of La Morra and covers approximately 15 hectares, 5 of which are planted with vineyards, 8 with hazelnut groves and 2 with woodland.

Our company is located in La Morra, and the farm covers a surface area of approximately 15 hectares. Vineyards stretch for about 5 hectares, hazel covers about 8 hectares and the rest (about 2 hectares) is woodland.

In the vineyard, ancient viticulture is practiced with some hints of modernity. Pruning is short, and yields are low, obtained with thinning often carried out with two - three passages in the vineyard.

Our viticulture is traditional with some sign of modernity. The prunings are short and yields per hectare are very low, often obtained with 2 or 3 thinnings - Information from Ellena Giuseppe Website
