Description

Mingling notes of wild berries and plums with hints of sweet spices, licorice, orange rind and espresso, the 2018 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru En Orveaux is medium to full-bodied, layered and multifaceted, framed by powdery structuring tannins and lively acids. It's one of the finer-boned, more nuanced wines in the range this year. - WA92

Borderline dominating wood and menthol push even strongly reduced aromas to the background. The very rich, opulent and mouthcoating flavors possess a velvety and very seductive mouthfeel though the complex but warm finish is slightly drying today. I suspect that the dryness will eventually age out but it's far from clear that the wood treatment will eventually be successfully integrated. This very rich effort will most please those who enjoy plenty of wood. - BH87-90

The wonderful exposure enjoyed by the Vosne Romanée premier cru "En Orveaux" vineyards endows these wines with a deep ruby colour and aromas of red fruits, blackcurrants and raspberries. Their robust and richly perfumed bouquet imbues them with a character at once silky and rustic. Their freshness and mellowness, combined with a certain sensuous vinosity renders them a worthy rival to other Vosne Romanée premier crus. This is a supremely well-balanced wine.- Winemaker's Notes

The Winery

The village of Vosne Romanee entered in the Burgundy history in 636. It was at the beginning of the XVII century that is first noted the name "Mongeard" in the registry. For more than eight generations, the Mongeard family has been established in Vosne Romanee, right in the midst of the Cote de Nuits, producing wine with an utmost respect for tradition.

Since then and through all the generations, the family is committed to their passion: Vine and Wine. The Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret, renamed since 1945, now operates a large vineyard in the purist of the burgundy tradition, My grand-father was Eugene Mongeard and my grand-mother Edmee Mugneret.
