Chateau Montelena Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 - 375ml (B)
- Napa Valley
- Cabernet Sauvignon
A total knock-out, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate captures all the potential of this great site. Powerful, voluptuous and structured, yet very much within the context of classicism that has defined these wines for several decades. Dark red cherry, stone fruits, smoke, licorice and scorched earth, along with beams of tannin, wrap around the palate. Deep, virile and explosive, the 2014 is a must have. Don't miss it! - Antonio Galloni (Vinous)95+
It's always an incredibly special moment when we finish the final blend of our Estate Cabernet Sauvignon; when we've hit that perfect spot where the flavors, aromas, and textures reach the pinnacle of balance and expression. Our forty year legacy of recognizing the far-reaching consequences of how we farm, craft the wine, and blend, along with the ethos to agonize over every fundamental detail is what sets Chateau Montelena Winery apart.
Nose: The interplay of cassis, vanilla, and black cherry are quite complementary yet also dynamic; shifting to fresh blueberry with a hint of tobacco. These, in turn, are buttressed by dark chocolate, mocha, and a slight suggestion of sweet oak.
Palate: Silky, fine-grain tannins vie with vibrant acidity that slowly expose the rich, ripe raspberry and blackberry notes that dominate the mid palate. While the fruit is lush and mouth coating, some patience will unveil the subtle layers of anise, smoke, and earth hidden beneath.
Finish: The finish extends the density and structure as cloves and cinnamon combine with nuances of briar and flint, yielding an extraordinarily food-friendly wine. - Winemaker's Notes
Chateau Montelena was founded in 1882 by Alfred Tubbs. The renaissance of the winery, under the leadership of James Barrett, began in 1972 with the replanting of the Estate vineyard and the establishment of the Chateau Montelena philosophy: make the best, period. Today the tradition continues. Jim Barrett's son, Bo, winemaker at Chateau Montelena beginning in 1982, is now its Master Winemaker. After more than three decades of experience with the same vineyards and varieties, the Montelena Estate Cabernet Sauvignon and Napa Valley Chardonnay are recognized as world-class.
