The 2014 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Orveaux comes from the domaine's 1.08-hectare of vines aged between 25 to 52 years that are orientated north to south. It has impressive delineation and terroir expression on the nose, quite feminine and understated at first, but unfurling in the glass to reveal attractive redcurrant, wild strawberry and cold limestone scents. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, quite firm tannin, crisp and tensile red berry fruit, and a taut, quite saline finish. This is worth seeking out - a Vosne-Romanée endowed with confidence. - WA91
A notably spicy nose features red and blue pinot fruit, violets and cassis aromas. The vibrant, supple and precise middle weight flavors are shaped by relatively refined tannins on the saline-inflected finish where a hint of bitter cherry surfaces. This isn't especially dense and should drink well on the earlier side if desired. - BH87-90
The wonderful exposure enjoyed by the Vosne Romanée premier cru "En Orveaux" vineyards endows these wines with a deep ruby colour and aromas of red fruits, blackcurrants and raspberries. Their robust and richly perfumed bouquet imbues them with a character at once silky and rustic. Their freshness and mellowness, combined with a certain sensuous vinosity renders them a worthy rival to other Vosne Romanée premier crus. This is a supremely well-balanced wine. - Winemaker's Notes
The village of Vosne Romanee entered in the Burgundy history in 636. It was at the beginning of the XVII century that is first noted the name "Mongeard" in the registry. For more than eight generations, the Mongeard family has been established in Vosne Romanee, right in the midst of the Cote de Nuits, producing wine with an utmost respect for tradition.
Since then and through all the generations, the family is committed to their passion: Vine and Wine. The Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret, renamed since 1945, now operates a large vineyard in the purist of the burgundy tradition, My grand-father was Eugene Mongeard and my grand-mother Edmee Mugneret.
