Moderate reduction masks the underlying fruit at present though there is very good freshness and punch to the detailed and lightly mineral-inflected medium weight flavors that offer solid depth and length though in this case the rusticity is more overt on the youthfully austere finale. This moderately firm and muscular effort is very Nuits in basic character and will need at least a few years of cellar time to unwind and soften.- BH87~89
Wines under the "Nuits" appellation are the most robust, full-bodied and strong in tannins of all Côtes-de-Nuits wines. They are usually ready to drink about 4 or 5 years after being bottled, and will age perfectly for about ten years. They are full and firm, with a deep intense colour.
Their aromas are rich and complex, suggestive of cherries, blackcurrants, animal pelts and truffles. Their high tannin content provides them with a very firm structure, and the harmonious interplay between the tannins and the inherently rounded nature of these wines makes them full-bodied and solid. - Winemaker's Notes
The village of Vosne Romanee entered in the Burgundy history in 636. It was at the beginning of the XVII century that is first noted the name "Mongeard" in the registry. For more than eight generations, the Mongeard family has been established in Vosne Romanee, right in the midst of the Cote de Nuits, producing wine with an utmost respect for tradition.
Since then and through all the generations, the family is committed to their passion: Vine and Wine. The Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret, renamed since 1945, now operates a large vineyard in the purist of the burgundy tradition, My grand-father was Eugene Mongeard and my grand-mother Edmee Mugneret.
