Description

Intense color. Soft, very fruity nose. This wine has better than average structure and predominantly red fruit flavours. Barrel ageing will unquestionably add a sophisticated touch to the powerful tannin, and conribute to producting a very attractive wine. - Winemaker's Notes

Red berry flavors abound, perfumed and fresh. The tannins are sweet and elegant, with light acidity. This is a poised, lively wine, touched by dryness over a more solid core. - WE90

A sexy second wine, the 2005 La Chapelle is broad and savory, with velvety tannins. It offers a deep ruby plum/purple color followed by loads of charcoal, sweet black cherry and cassis fruit, and a medium to full-bodied, lush texture. It is drinking well now and should do so for at least another decade or more. - WA90

The Winery

In 1664, Madame de Lestonnac bequeathed the domaine of La Mission Haut-Brion to the Peres Lazaristes, a congregation founded by Saint Vincent de Paul. The "good fathers" worked to restore their property to its rightful worth. After them, the Chiapella family (owners in the 19th century) and Woltner family (owners between 1919 and 1983) never stopped improving the vineyard and modernizing the cellars. Since 1983, the Dillon family, already owner of Chateau Haut-Brion, continues the same policy under the presidency of H.R.H. Prince Robert of Luxembourg.
