Description

Our Grand Vin Château Pichon Baron, classified as a 2nd Grand Cru Classé in 1855, is made with grapes from the oldest vines on the estate’s historic plots. This quintessential Pauillac offers an intense and profound sensory experience of great complexity.

Château Pichon Baron exhibits elegance, intensity and exceptional length on the palate. It is a wine that improves year after year and can age for over 40 years in the cellar. - Winemaker's Notes

As for the big sibling, the 2012 Pichon Baron (80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot) probably has the most saturated purple color of the Pauillacs. Its structure is apparent, and the wine offers a wealth of blackcurrant fruit interwoven with licorice, graphite, and background toasty oak. Full-bodied, opulent and moderately tannic, this wine is approachable now because of its low acidity, but promises to age beautifully for 20+ years. This is another great classic from Pichon Baron.- WA93

This has a lively spine of briar that pumps through the core of cassis and plum fruit, while anise and sweet tobacco notes fill in on the finish. Shows a twinge of plum skin at the end, but delivers more than enough flesh and drive overall. A solid effort. Best from 2017 through 2027.- WS92

A pretty core of ripe-berry, currant and mineral character to this red with a full body, silky tannins and a fresh finish to add. Creamy texture. Better in 2017.- JS94

The Winery

Pichon-Longueville is located on beautifully gravelly soil in the southern part of the commune of Pauillac. In 1694, Jacques de Pichon, Baron de Longueville, married the daughter of Pierre de Rauzan, who originally created the property. Their descendants remained deeply involved with making fine wine, and Raoul de Pichon-Longueville built the present chateau in 1851.

In 1988, following an architectural competition organized by the Centre Georges Pompidou, the château and wine cellar were entirely renovated. A spectacular new winemaking facility enables an exquisite wine to be made under ideal conditions.
