Chateau Lyonnat 2012
- Merlot,Cabernet Sauvignon
This wine is full of character, medium to deep cherry red with an intense nose of marinated plums, black cherries and complex, tertiary aromas. Medium to full bodied, with depth, structure, well-integrated oak, and a certain elegance that contrasts with the power of the wine, this strikes an excellent balance between fruit and tannin and a long finish.- Winemaker's Notes
Château Lyonnat covers 52 hectares on Lussac Saint-Emilion AOC. It is one of the oldest estates in the Lussac Saint-Emilion AOC. It says in the book entitled ""Histoire de Lussac et de l'Abbaye cistercenne de Faise"" that in 1615 Château Lyonnat belonged to the Bishop and that the treasurer of the Abbaye de Faise lived there. The estate was at that time made of more than 180 hectares, which explains the huge size of the current cellars and outbuildings. Most of the wine produced was for consumption of Vatican. For more than four centuries, the wines of Château Lyonnat have been enjoyed beyond our borders!
Throughout the history of the château, the spelling of the name “Lyonnat” changed very often: going from Léonat to Lionat, then Lionnat and finally Lyonnat. In 1961, Château Lyonnat was acquired byDamase Milhade, grandfather of Gérard Milhade, the current owner.
The different parcels extend along the limestone-clay slopes, benefitting from an ideal southern-southeastern exposure.
Vineyards are planted with mostly Merlot, with: 85% Merlot 11% Cabernet Sauvignon 4% Cabernet Franc
In order to take the selection and sorting of the harvest to an even higher level, in 2005 Brigitte Milhade invested in a Mistral, a revolutionary multi-tiered sorting machine with blowers, now used at numerous Grand Cru Classé estates in Bordeaux. The vinification at Château Lyonnat is done in temperature-controlled ciment tanks with cold pre-fermentation maceration, short and regular pumping over, and aging in oak barrels.
Four wines are produced under Lussac Saint-Emilion AOC: Château Lyonnat Emotion- A cuvee made with old vines and little yield Château Lyonnat - the classic quality Château La Rose Perruchon - second wine of Château Lyonnat Le Rose du Lyonnat -Bordeaux Rose
