Chateau d'Issan 1996
- Cabernet Sauvignon,Merlot
Deep colour. A fresh, strong nose of violets and blackberries, a lovely elegant yet supple texture with hints of licorice, lots of tannin but very fleshy.-Winemaker's Notes
This property continues to reassert itself, with a renewed commitment to quality. The 1996 d'Issan has turned out beautifully in bottle. It exhibits a dark ruby/purple color as well as an elegant, floral, blackberry, and smoky-scented nose. The wine is medium-bodied and complex in the mouth, with subtle new oak, gorgeously ripe, sweet black currant fruit, and well-integrated tannin and acidity. This quintessential Margaux-styled wine is elegant and rich. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2020. WA88
Chateau d`Issan is a 3eme Cru Classe Margaux property that produces richly aromatic and silky-textured clarets that are often amongst the best of the appellation.
The beautiful 18th century chateau is surrounded by a moat and is frequently described as the most romantic in the Medoc. D`Issan has been owned by the Cruse family since 1945 and is presently owned and run by Emmanuel Cruse, his wife, and their son, Lionel. D'Issan has 52 hectares of vineyards planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (70%) and Merlot (30%). The grapes are traditionally vinified and the wine is then matured in oak casks (33% new) for 18 months. The wine is bottled unfiltered.
